At the northern end of the county, Damascus is an easy commute to not only southern Montgomery County, but also Frederick, Howard, and Carroll Counties. The major routes in and out of Damascus are Rt. 27, or Ridge Road; Rt. 108, or Damascus Road; and Rt. 124, or Woodfield Road. I-70 is a quick five miles north at the southern border of Mt. Airy Maryland.

Damascus schools rank well among Montgomery County schools, with winning sports teams and excellent academics. Damascus High School is well-known for its championship athletic teams, the Swarmin' Hornets. Damascus is fortunate to have a large, well-administered local athletic program, Damascus Sports Association (DSA) which supports all types of athletics in the younger ages. When teens reach the high school age, they have been already been coached and prepared at a high level.
